History of the Corvette

Chevrolet Corvette 1953-1962, come see the Chevrolet Corvette 2018 at Christin automobile in Montreal.

The corvette is a sports car that has many generations, the first one starting in 1953. As the first car using fibreglass as a component of its body, Its entry on the market was nothing but a success. Of course, this vehicle has marked the history of automotive for its innovation, and such success remains throughout its 7 generations. The Corvette is a car that is made to last, and to shine. To better show you this, your dealer Christin Automobile concessionnaire Chevrolet in Montreal near Laval and Repentigny brings you to a journey through time.

C1 1953-1962

During those years, this convertible was the emblematic car of the United States. The colours of the Corvette, then known as "Solid-Axle,” were very unique back then. It was equipped with a 3.9-liter engine developing 160 hp coupled with a two-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission was available only later, in 1955, in addition to a small-block V8.

C2 1963-1967

At that time, the corvette evolved at all levels. At first, there is its nickname "Sting Ray", probably due to its slender appearance as the body of a ray. It is not hard to spot this car by looking at its rear window separated into two parts. Otherwise, in terms of performance, the Corvette was equipped with an engine ranging from 5.4 L to 7 L, delivering 250 hp to 435 hp. The official integration of the "Big block" is the explanation of such great performance.

C3 1968-1982

Despite Chevrolet's continued efforts, the engine has never been the hallmark of the Corvette. Thus, the third generation is marked by a relatively high stagnation in engine power. As a result, new vehicles of that time had a engine ranging from 5.3 L to 7.4 L, powering 327 to 425 ci. However, the Chevrolet manufacturer still wished to improve its engines, so it developed the Cross-Fire injection engine.

C4 1984-1996

This generation, from 1984 to 1985, was marked by the used of its Tuned Port Injection system in its Corvette cars. That is how the Corvette earned the title of "Pace car". Its performance, which is still not its selling point, did not change much; from a 205 hp engine in 1984, it became a 5.7L engine developing a maximum of 405 hp, available in either automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

C5 1997-2004

The fifth generation comes with innovations on several levels. The LS1 engine, a 5.7L V8 engine that is more powerful and durable than the previous one, can reach up to 6,200 rpm, compared to 5,800 rpm of the C4. In addition, the Corvette took on an even sportier look, both in terms of appearance and performance. In fact, its engine, its brakes and its suspensions were only more powerful and durable, allowing it to reach a speed of more than 300 km / h.

C6 2005-2013

The Corvette became a Chevrolet independent brand only from this generation. Since then, its external structure changes, giving it a more pronounced style. We know it particularly through these models: C6 Z06, C6 ZR1, and C6 Grand Sport, offered in manual or automatic transmission. In terms of power, the engine of 5.7-liter delivers between 404 hp and 437 hp.

C7 2014 ---
The Corvette C7 Stingray, equipped with a 6.2L engine powering 467 hp available at Christin Chevrolet in Montreal near Laval and Repentigny!
The 7th generation is the current one. We are particularly familiar with the Corvette C7 Stingray, equipped with a 6.2L engine powering 467 hp. The appearance of the latest Corvette model was revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It can either come with a seven-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a power of 460 hp. We can't wait for more surprises coming from this sport vehicle that made many people's dream come true.
