The 2017 GMC Canyon: just what you need!
The middle ground
Bigger doesn’t always mean better. The 2017 GMC Canyon’s manufacturer got that right and built a unique truck that will satisfy your requirements without burdening you with the usual downsides of full-size trucks, namely their size, their higher fuel consumption and their lack of maneuverability. The cabin is large (on the inside), soundproof, comfortable and provides the user with functionalities too often lacking in the vehicles of this segment. That includes a large navigation screen (with voice commands), Bluetooth and Siri’s connectivity, Onstar 4G LTE onboard, USB ports and a 12 volts charging outlet. In the back, the cargo box brings some interesting elements such as an integrated corner step rear bumper to make the access to the box easier, available upper tie-downs that can be placed in 13 locations to help you manage your stock and a lower tailgate to facilitate the loading of the box.
Performance
On the engine side, you can choose (and it won’t be easy) between one diesel’s and two gas’. The first is an 8-cylinder, 2.8-liter Duramax engine that produces over 180 HP in a way that won’t adversely affect the fuel consumption. We’re talking about 10.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.9 L/100 km on road. The maximum towing capacity of this engine is estimated to 3,493 kilograms (almost 7,700 pounds). The second engine is one of the best performing 4-cylinder in this category. With a 2.5-liter capacity, it generates 200 HP while keeping a fairly moderate fuel consumption (12.7 L/100 km in the city, 9.6 L/100 km on road). Both engines come with a 6-speed transmission, automatic for the first and manual for the second. A new (gas) engine has been added to the lineup this year. It’s a 6-cylinder, 3.6-liter engine that delivers 308 HP and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 GMC Canyon is the right size and offers more functionalities than the ones usually available in a truck. Plus, it would be very unlikely that none of the three engines fit your need.
