The Ontario Environmental Leaders program set up by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment recognizes and rewards leading companies and organizations that commit to reducing their environmental impact beyond what is required by regulation. As a result, environmental leaders are encouraged to continuously improve their operations and achieve higher goals.

Last Friday, General Motors of Canada became the first automaker and the largest company yet to be honoured. Total GHG emissions from its facilities are 50% lower than 1990 levels despite a 12% vehicle production increase.

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment offers incentives aimed at improving efficiency, long range planning and manufacturing flexibility, while recognizing the environmental leadership of companies and allowing them to participate in industry-government round tables.

Congratulations to GM for making such gigantic efforts to reduce the impact of its facilities on the environment and offer customers greener choices.
